In 2019 Tauron Dystrybucja SA approached MTO with a proposal of cooperation in efforts to protect the white stork. As a result, the first joint project for the study and protection of the white stork in the operating area of Tauron Dystrybucja SA was created. In 2019, the ringing of juvenile white storks took place in the Silesian and Lesser Poland voivodeships. A total of 130 young storks were ringed in 49 nests. In 2020, the project expanded to the Lower Silesian, Silesian, and Lesser Poland voivodeships. A total of 607 storks were ringed in 245 nests. In 2021, 820 storks were ringed in 295 nests.
In 2022, we ringed 637 young storks in 236 nests. In 2022, in a nest with a live internet stream in Niepołomice organized by Tauron Dystrybucja SA, we ringed 4 young storks, and one of them received a GPS-GSM transmitter funded by Tauron Dystrybucja SA.
As part of the collaboration with Tauron Dystrybucja in 2023, ringing of white storks was organized within the operational area of Tauron Dystrybucja. Eleven individual ringers and teams were involved in ringind white storks. A total of 700 young storks were ringed in 278 nests across 49 municipalities, and one young stork was ringed at a rehabilitation center. Five volunteers assisted in the activities. Participants also distributed a leaflet to residents at the ringing locations, informing them about our collaboration and support from Tauron Dystrybucja.
We have been collaborating in the field of studying and protecting the white stork with Tauron Dystrybucja SA for five years now. This is an extremely fruitful collaboration that initiated the ringing of white storks throughout Poland.
